Kite Liberator feels so incomplete and it leaves much more questions than answers. Was she forced into it? Did she choose to be an assassin herself? The lack of explanation bothers me a lot. Monaka's circumstances don't seem as dire as Sawa's so it seems even more puzzling to me as to why she would be an assassin. The original Kite felt like a more complete story as we do know why Sawa became an assassin. The anime doesn't explain this at all, and there's got to be a story there. I'm also curious as to how and why Monaka became the Angel of Death. She can perhaps function as a mentor/older sister figure to Monaka she kind of does in this anime, but I still feel like it could be expanded further. Even if she has no relation to Sawa other than her fighting skills, it'd still be interesting to see her backstory. If she is supposed to be Sawa it'd be interesting to see what she had been doing since the original Kite. Mukai, who is possibly Sawa under a different name, in any case, she is implied to at least be a former assassin like Monaka. A lot of the plot elements could be interesting stories by themselves like Monaka's friendship with Ms. The art and animation was good and I do like Monaka, but I felt this movie had a lot of wasted potential. Yet another case of studio still trying to milk money of a famous franchise. Would have good to great if it had nothing to do with Kite. Though this is a standalone and not a continuation of the original, comparison are going to be made as it borrows the name. They should have continued the battle IMHO The action also wasn't that good and the finale was a let down. Also it lack the grit passion emotional complexity compared to original Kite. I just couldn't stand here and every-time she came onscreen it was like an insult to Sawa. But I simply hated the timid cutsie personality of Monaka Noguchi. Trust me the Angel.of.Death I found even better than Sawa. I was a little apprehensive about the space theme but was glad to see most of the action taking place on earth. I was seriously excited about watching this wondering how our good ole kite would look in the present day. So I checked up wiki to go down memory lane and I was pleasantly surprised to find the series had a redux. I was watching Phantom OVAS and it reminded me of the Ova I had seen a long time back called Kite.
